The Society and College of Radiographers

Added by - Sarah on 23 November 2015

I have just moved into no.6 Zetland Square after a temporary stay at Aske Stables. My name is Sue Johnson. I am a radiographer but don’t worry I’m not using x-rays in my new office! Until 18 months ago I was a clinical manager in Radiology at Derby Hospitals. I then moved to be a professional officer for the Society and College of Radiographers. This is a remote worker role – SCoR HQ is just by Tower Bridge in London. I attend meetings and events there about once a fortnight. I travel extensively throughout the country visiting SoR members and diagnostic imaging departments. I deliver Continuous professional education and provide professional support as required. I seem to have long periods where all I do is speak at conferences! In the office amongst a host of other things I work on radiographic guidance or standard documents and provide member support via e-mail or telephone.

I am one of a team of 8 who deliver our professional activities from a remote location. Most of my colleagues have a home office – I tried this and it wasn’t for me! I like to have a dedicated work space away from home and I have to say that the facilities I have found and use in Richmond are second to none.

I have moved, with my retired husband, to Richmond for a life style change. The rail services via Darlington and Northallerton support my travel needs and once the A1 upgrade is finished the road transport too will be pretty good! We love Swaledale but don’t totally want the rural lifestyle! Richmond would seem to have a great deal going for it, although we would like to improve access to a more varied range of good quality real ale! As new members of the community we are still finding our feet, and a traumatic failed house purchase has knocked our confidence a bit and we still feel unsettled in our rented property. Hopefully a new house is very close and we will be able to put down our new roots. Making the move to Zetland Square is definitely part of settling and I am looking forward to becoming a part of that business community although with a fairly different role to many. Please do come and say ‘Hi’ and even have coffee!
