Place Architecture Design International War Memorial

Stephen Palmer who runs Place Architecture with offices here at Aske Stables, was chosen to design and project manage the International Bomber Command Centre near Lincoln. The memorial complex pays tribute to the 75,000 airmen – many of whom were based in the North-East and North Yorkshire – who died while serving in Bomber crews during the Second World War.
The walls of the memorial are engraved with the names of all the Bomber Command aircrew who lost their lives in the conflict, with a 30 metre spire forming the centrepiece of the complex. Standing 10 metres higher than the Angel of the North, the spire becomes the tallest war memorial in the UK.
Whilst the memorial is not open to the general public just yet, you can find out more about the project here.
